Keep Up The Pressure for Revenue!
Keep up pressure on the Michigan Legislature to pass revenue to make up for the devastating budget cuts.
As the Governor reviews the budget bills and, in some cases, exercises the line item veto, it is critical that we keep up pressure on the Michigan Legislature to fix the problems created by the devastating cuts contained in those budget bills.
Cuts to K-12 education, the Promise Grant, revenue sharing (police & fire) and human services are absolutely unacceptable. The only fix is to pass revenue legislation.
Mike Bishop continues to sit on revenue legislation passed by the House. We need to tell him to move that legislation forward.

Talking Points:
Encourage Senators & Representatives to support the following revenue measures . . .
Freeze the Personal Exemption: By freezing the personal exemption at the 2008 rate, Michigan would raise $55 million without raising anyone's taxes.
De-couple the Estate Tax: Abolish Michigan’s “Dynasty Tax Exemption” to enable collection of taxes on huge estates over $2 million by “de-coupling” Michigan’s Inheritance Tax from the federal estate tax. This would generate at least $160 million per year in revenue for our state from fewer than 1000 Dynasty estates.
QAAP (Physician Tax): This was rejected by the Senate 10-28-2009. This would impose a 3% tax on physicians' revenue. This would trigger a 3:1 match for Medicaid dollars from the federal government. For every $1 raised from QAAP, the federal government would send Michigan $3. The money would help to offset the 8% cut to Medicaid. HB 5386 was passed by the House and is on hold in the Senate.
