2010 Justice Caucus Millie Jeffrey Awards Dinner a Great Success
On Sunday, March 21, over 160 progressive leaders, activists and elected officials from across Michigan celebrated the 3rd annual Justice Caucus Millie Jeffrey Awards Dinner at the Courtyard by Marriott in Ann Arbor. Keynote speaker, former Vermont Governor Madeleine M. Kunin, gave a moving speech emphasizing that America needs more women and minorities in elected positions, as they bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to solve the major issues of our time. Justice Caucus Board Member, former State Representative Jack Minore, described Kunin's speech as "one of the most inspirational speeches I have ever heard."
The awards ceremony featured impressive introductions for the each of the award recipients. "Spirit of Millie" Awards were given to Elizabeth Bunn, Maryion Lee, Ethel Schwartz and Ron Scott. The new "Rising Star" award was given to Sarah Juster. The acceptance speeches were inspiring.
The crowd was entertained by the wit of emcee, Michael McGuinness, and amazed by his ability to recognize and name all the attending elected officials and candidates.
Here are a few comments from attendees following the event:
"What a wonderful turn-out and great program!"
"The timing was impeccable ... with the approval of the new health care reform!"
"It was one of the best dinners we've ever been to."
"We enjoyed the passion in the room, the solidarity and animated crowd."
